ABOUT THE BEEF

Pasture Raised Black Angus
Healthy cattle roam. Ours have access to plenty of fresh water and healthy, native grasses. We practice rotational grazing on our 2500-acre ranch. We are always striving to be better stewards of the cattle and the land.
Much of the ranch has been reverted to natural prairie grasses indigenous to the area. These grasses create an environment for native insects. These insects help to break down the cow pies into beneficial compost for the land. We also rotate quail from pasture to pasture to help control the bugs and breakdown manure. Kinda like chicken scratching.
We believe this environment is safest and healthiest for the ecosystem on our ranch, and in turn, healthier and more delicious for you!
21 Days Dry Aging
Snow Creek Ranch’s dry-aged beef has been allowed to hang in a dry, climate-controlled environment for 3 weeks. The dry aging process concentrates the beef’s flavor by reducing the water content through dehydration (and thus giving you more beef for your dollar!). While hanging, the beef’s natural enzymes go to work breaking down the muscle fiber, and tough connective tissue in the muscle, leading to beef that is actually more tender than it would be if grilled fresh.
While most supermarket steaks are wet aged for just a few days Snow Creek Ranch steaks are dry aged for 21 days, so they’re buttery smooth, like a fine wine, with complex flavors and incredibly tender.
No Hormones. No Steroids. Ever.
While a program of regular growth hormones and steroids makes it cheaper (up to 30% cheaper!) for industrial ranching operations to produce beef, we believe it is unhealthy for our cattle, and for you. As a small, independent, family ranch, our goal is to produce healthy cows. That’s why we never use hormones or steroids, and we only use antibiotics when we absolutely have to, like when we have a sick or injured animal.
We’re committed to producing safe beef, fit for our children and yours, even if it costs more to do it. It’s just the right thing to do, and you get a better steak in the end.
Specializing in Rib Eye and Marbling
When you are looking to enjoy the best steak Angus cattle have to offer, you’re looking for 2 characteristics: large ribeyes and excellent marbling.
The Ribeye is our signature steak. And thanks to our herd’s unique genetics, ours are some of the largest around, weighting in at about 1.3LBS. They are also some of the most delicious you’ll ever taste.
In addition to large Ribeyes, our beef has amazing marbling, thanks to our herd’s amazing DNA, combined with a special feed program. This combination produces beautiful Intra-Muscular Fat (IMF, or Marbling). It’s what makes your Snow Creek Ranch Steak so tender, flavor-packed, and healthy.
Grass-Fed, Flax Finished for Health
Our cattle are grass fed on Native prairie grasses which provide a variety of nutrients in their diet. This helps to give them increased honeycombing in their trip (stomach) which allows for better absorption of the nutrients from the food they eat.
We finish them on a specially designed feed program that includes flax seed oils. Research from the Kansas and Iowa State Universities has shown increased marbling and increased omega-3 fatty acids (the good ones) in beef raised with flax seed oils.
So not only does Snow Creek Ranch beef taste better, it’s better for you!
Sustainably All Natural
Snow Creek Ranch all natural beef is hand-raised to meet the highest standards possible for taste, tenderness and marbling!
Raised with no hormones or steroids, our free range beef is grass fed and flax finished.
For 15 months, our cattle are free to graze native prairie grass and enjoy wide open skies. The cattle are given a specially formulated diet designed by Doc, ranch owner and herd founder.
Humanely Raised
Also, with USDA regulation for terms like “organic” there are potentially inhumane restrictions and requirements. For example, if an animal is hurt from something as innocent as scratching against a tree and gets an infected cut, to keep the herd “organic” you’d either have to separate the animal completely from the herd to treat with a topical antibiotic ointment or you’d have to not treat at all.
Since Cattle are herd animals to separate them would cause them stress. We strive to be good stewards of our cattle and the land. Our goal is to have happy, healthy cattle.
Direct from Our Family Farm
Snow Creek Ranch is a family owned and operated ranch. We (and you) know where every animal comes from… Right here! We are not part of a coop and are not a broker.
Taste the rich difference in our Above Prime Black Angus beef raised the old-fashioned way. Our herd has some of the top bulls and cows in the Angus breed.
Don’t be fooled by the fact that we’re a family farm. Doc (Papa) is one of the premier and most innovative breeders in the biz.

ABOUT THE RANCH
Humanely Raised
When we say we treat our animals humanely, we’re not kidding. Each of our ranch hands is specially trained to approach the herd as quietly as possible. We don’t even take cell phones out on the range! Our cows are TRULY free range. We have over 3500 acres of Kansas prairie, and they’re free to roam anywhere on the ranch they see fit. We strive to be good stewards of the herd, and to produce healthy, happy cattle.
Purity of Breeding
Because Doc was such an innovative breeder, over time, our herd has become more and more genetically pure, and more and more delicious. And those amazing genetics are a key part of our success. We produce healthy animals that are resistant to diseases, and live a happy, low-stress life, full of fresh grasses and wide-open blue sky.
Good Stewards
One of our most important values and tasks is to take care of the land we’re blessed to work. That’s why we use rotational grazing to minimize the need for chemical fertilizers on the pasture. It’s why Doc was intimately familiar with every kind of grass and wildflower on the prairie. It’s why we treat each cow as an individual, and not just a unit of beef on a spreadsheet. Snow Creek Ranch is our Sacred Trust and our labor of love.
